What's funny about that, Zone, is that 11 years ago I too got into it with an Egyptian officer who was too good to hump a ruck. I pride myself on my lack of temper, but I lost it on that POS. The cadre just sat and watched, quite bemused.
Egypt. All downhill after the Sphynx.

Re: Surviving the Cut
I think they max the shows to show the drop outs. RS dropouts who quit or fail generally do so in the first two weeks. I remember watching people drop and thinking that my odds got better every time. Very schadenfreude. The Recon 1SG said it best - they weren't there to break them. That was clear in...

Re: Surviving the Cut
I thought it looked easier than when I did it. I imagine everyone else will agree. :)

Re: Your Opinion Concerning Compasses
The only problem with Army compasses is that a lot of them are crap, having been banged up and abused by those who went before you (especially 2LTs). So, go buy a used, serviceable one from an Army Navy store and, when you get issued a better one, swap it out. When you get done with your school turn...

Re: RS....Summer or Winter??
I would choose RS twice in the winter over once in the summer. Just the way I'm wired, I guess.

Re: What type of shoes?
That's exactly what I mean. If you get a blister, say on the pad of your foot, and you don't let it heal properly - drain it, let it harden, and dry out - then you can keep the fluid under the skin and develop a callous right on top. Then, one day, that blister WILL tear and you'll not only have the...

Re: What type of shoes?
No techniques other than use. Just run. When you get blisters, take some time to let them heal, then get back to it. Be careful you don't build up callouses over your blisters; the resulting tear hurts and takes away all of that hard work. Just go out and run for a long time. You don't even have to ...

Re: What type of shoes?
Go to a compitent running store (looks like Finger Laker Running and Triathlon is in your AO). Have them do a gait analysis and select the right shoe for you. You need a good, quality pair of running shoes - color and brand is immaterial. If I were you, and you can afford to, I'd get 2 or 3 pairs of...

Re: Book Review - Matterhorn
Long story short, this book was the best Vietnam novel I've ever read (and I think I've read them all). Have you read "Charlie Rangers"? Yep. Although some have disputed Rotundo's facts, I believe it is still considered non-fiction. Matterhorn is 100% novel. The closest approximation to i...

Book Review - Matterhorn
I finished this book a few weeks back and thought you all might enjoy it. http://www.amazon.com/Matterhorn-Novel-Vietnam-Karl-Marlantes/dp/080211928X The book is called Matterhorn. It is a novel about Vietnam written by an ex-Marine who was there (he earned the Navy Cross, BSM and PH among other thi...
