Re: Obtaining a Slot - the Process?

Yes, javelins have been fielded and fired in anger. What's better than a javelin? Hellfire. I saw a video on youtube before I did post the previous post to see just what the heck you were talking about. It does seem like a hell of a weapon. Did it ever make it into the Big Army or did it stay only ...

Re: Obtaining a Slot - the Process?

Well the JAVELIN is rather cool but how many actually got fielded? It was one expensive weapon and the per shot was very expensive. Did it ever make it into the TO&E? If a soldier doesn't have the weapon to begin with, it is sort of hard to kill tanks.

Re: Obtaining a Slot - the Process?

I could tell some NTC stories about being forward of the FLOT and using a TOW platoon to take out an entire Tank Company, a helicopter landing a recon unit, and changing the landscape of the entire battle.... I betcha you weren't using ITVs. It use to be an exciting day when you could actually rais...

Re: Obtaining a Slot - the Process?

I led a rifle platoon, Anti-tank platoon, and a Support Platoon. An "anti-tank platoon"???...pfft. Hey AshCav.....if you have a set, you would advise Ranger Jim how the best "anti-tank" weapon is ANOTHER DAMN TANK. 8) Back in the old days I had some ITVs (Improved TO...

Absolutely. I was fortunate to have a Tank Platoon as well as the Bn Scout Platoon. While other jobs I had looked good on paper and were career enhancing, none of them were as fun as being a Platoon Leader. Good luck!

Hey Nana....did you tell him he better not fail or you will be shamed on the internet? Did you tell him to not bother coming home if he didn't get his Scroll? Those would have been some kind of words of motivation coming from you....

Re: Obtaining a Slot - the Process?

What happened that you couldn't get a slot while at Armor BOLC? Before reading any further, take a look at my avatar. This should give you a clue that I have been where you are going but it was quite a while ago so things may have changed. While I would consider doing what Ranger Jim suggests, I per...

Okay.....you have been screwing off long enough going through schools. Now it is time to get to your unit and first platoon. It is time to get to work and earn your paycheck. It was 29 years ago in June that I earned my Tab and got to my first platoon. Oh how I am envious of you. Congratulations get...

Re: Introduction-Brian

Welcome to the site. Having a degree should not be the determining factor in deciding to be an Officer. There are Enlisted Rangers who have far more formal education then you do. Having a degree is just a check-box for becoming an Officer and nothing else and really does not determine whether you wi...

Re: Packing List

Things were so much easier in the old days. You didn't have too many options to choose from. You could wear issued leather boots and/or issued jungle boots. Got influenced by fellow prospective students to buy crap (because they heard...) I ended up never using such as high speed glove liners, littl...

Re: SITREP /MEPS RENO.....

Back in the day (until 1990) it did. Cadets went to Ranger School in lieu of Advanced Camp. They got no pre-Ranger course on the way; they went with what they had learned. Well "Pre-Ranger" didn't exist when I went to RS in '83. Sure...a lot of things in RS I already did as an ROTC cadet....
