Re: Introduction-Jim
You cancel your meps appointment it isn't a big deal besides if you aren't going to enlist why go and waste everyone's time and money. Your recruiter can reserve a Option 40 for you if and when they are available. I think you need to read a few posts by goon175 about how soldiers are getting into RA...

Re: Introduction: Kevin
Kevin, I hate to bust your dream but if you have a medical waiver it is doubtful you'll get airborne qualified at the meps. The airborne physical is required for enlistment into option 40. The infantry branch and Ranger branch can grant exceptions for airborne and Ranger training but since it is you...

Re: Introduction-Jim
JimB, option 40s are very tough to get right now. What you can do is have your recruiter reserve Infantry without option 40. When you go to the meps the GC can call the ROC (recruiting operations center) and try to get a option 40 added on for you (or as Jim wrote try for an airborne option). If all...

Re: When to start talking with a recruiter?
Mustard, don't be in such a hurry. I've told you more than once wait till the class of 2013 graduates. There are no option 40's right now. 14 month senior never get a option 40 contract because DA doesn't load the training that far out. If your parents aren't willing to sign your PC wait till your 1...

Re: I have looked but no answere "security clearence"
I spoke to our security manager at my meps and asked him about a student loan in collections. Yes that would stop you from getting a clearance. if you paid it off and showed proof you could still get a clearance. You cannot just go to the meps you must be scheduled through your recruiter. PerryB Mep...

Re: My Recruiter Is Trying To Sway Me Away The Option 40 Con
This isn't an easy question to answer right now. The Army Recruiting Command does have Ranger Slots (option 40) but most of the MOSs are not infantry. What I am seeing on the request system at the Houston meps is option 40 with the following MOSs: 92G, 92Y, 88M, and 42A. I haven't seen it in about a...

Re: When to start talking with a recruiter?
Wow sounds like that recruiter is a real POS. Sorry about that. I work at meps and see it all too often. I wouldn't worry about the PT program at the station. Do it on your own. Every young man I enlist with a option 40 is given the 12 week pre RASP work out plan, briefed on this website, and I reco...

Re: 7 Jan 2013
Well my son didn't pass land nav so he is back at FT Bragg. He only found 2 of the 4 points. He is already scheduled to return to PRC at Ft Bragg on February 25th and Ranger school on 21 April. Not sure what happened with land nav. Based on what he told me they never really get any training on land ...

Re: When to start talking with a recruiter?
It is always a good idea to talk to your parents and let them know why you want to join. They should accompany you to see your recruiter. I'm sure the recruiters won't laugh, they always need to add people to their pipeline. Like Goon175 wrote you can join 14 months out from your graduation but the ...

Re: David's Introduction
Jomax, if you have a GED and want Option 40 you will need to complete 15 semester hours of college first. All 15 hours must be 100 level or above. The credits can be in any subject. After you have 15 semester hours you will be treated just like a high school graduate.

Re: 7 Jan 2013
Ranger Jim, I sure am although I have really thought about letting my brother pin it on. My brother is a Ranger and it would mean a lot to me to see my brother pin my son. I haven't decided yet. My brother was joking telling me winter Rangers get to sew their tabs on with white thread.

Option 40 in April
Right now the Recruiting Command has over 75 option 40 slots for Mos 92G (cook). The slots even come with a $10,000 bonus. I work at the Houston Meps and just verified this. These slots are all shipping in April. No idea about other MOSs.

Re: 7 Jan 2013
Ranger Jim and Ranger Steadfast, I will for sure keep you updated on his progress. They returned to PRC today for one last APFT which he passed with no issues. So nothing left to do but stay hydrated, focused, motivated, and head to Ft Benning this weekend.
