Re: Introduction - Brent

After a long day at MEPS yesterday, I now officially have my 11x Option 40 contract! I scored a 97 on the ASVAB, and everything else seemed to go good as well. My ship date will be 20160105. In the meantime I will be doing everything I can to prepare myself mentally and physically for the challenges...

Re: Introduction - Brent

Well, after having basically decided that I will be getting a regular 11x contract, I received an exciting call this afternoon from my recruiter informing me that he was able to reserve me an 11x Option 40. As mentioned in my previous post, I will be going to MEPS on Monday. I am incredibly excited ...

Re: Introduction - Brent

I’m happy to finally be able to say that my packet has cleared and I will be leaving for MEPS on Sunday. My recruiter and I looked at jobs this morning and, despite initially showing that there were over two hundred 11x Option 40s available (which was apparently the result of a computer glitch), the...

Re: Introduction - Brent

Thanks for the advice Ranger Jim and Ranger Grim666. Last week I did two five mile rucks on back-to-back days (with 52 pounds) and the week before that I did a six mile ruck with about 43 pounds. I will definitely follow your suggestions and tone it down until my body gets more used to rucking. Whil...

Re: Introduction - Brent

Just a quick update on my situation: The first time I sent my packet in, the MEPS doctors sent it back and requested that I take a pulmonary functions test with a methacholine challenge (due to my inhaler use for bronchitis when I was younger). I passed the test (my lung function dropped 18%, but an...

Re: Introduction - Brent

Roger Ranger Jim. Ranger Sinjefe, after hearing your advice and further thinking about the topic, I have decided to completely rule out the 18x route. While I have the utmost respect for the SF, it does not seem wise for me to go directly into them, nor is that even where I want to be (at least init...

Re: Introduction - Brent

Thanks for the advice Ranger Grim666. I did some looking on here and found a push-up workout that I will add to my current routine.

Re: Introduction - Brent

I conducted another PFT this morning with a 5 mile run: Push-ups: 79 Sit-ups: 90 5 mile: 37:17 Dead-hang pull-ups: 16 I'm a little confused regarding why my push-ups seem to be dropping. I'm hoping that it's simply because I'm doing a better job of locking my elbows now, but I can't say for sure. I'...

Re: Introduction - Brent

Here are the results from a PFT I conducted today: Push-ups: 87 Sit-ups: 87 2 mile: 13:16 Dead-hang pull-ups: 15 I'm not incredibly happy with these scores, but I swam for a few hours yesterday (which was the first time in years I have swam at all) so I'm not surprised that they are worse than my la...

Re: Introduction - Brent

Thank you for the information and advice judeisnotobscure; when in doubt, it is never a bad idea to ask a recruiter. Ranger sinjefe, I really appreciate your insight into this matter. Although I do consider myself fairly mature, I also recognize that I’m a 22-year-old without much experience in the ...

Re: Introduction - Brent

Ranger Jim, I was aware of the language requirement, and I do not currently speak a foreign language. However, I would enjoy learning one if given the opportunity. Do most people who become Special Forces soldiers know or have some familiarity with a foreign language before attending the Q Course, o...

Re: Introduction - Brent

Thanks for the welcome and advice Ranger ManchuV. I am very happy to have found this website, and it has already proven to be an invaluable resource to me. As for my current situation, I completed most of my packet (references, history, etc.) on Tuesday, with the exception of the medical information...
