Re: Med Issues - PRK, Kidney Stone

Rangers/Non-Rangers, It has been a while since I posted as I was pretty much in a holding pattern. In mid-late June I was informed I was disqualified due to some 'depression' I was treated for when I was 17 years old (I am currently 31). I was kind of shocked as this was almost 15 years ago and was ...

Re: Med Issues - PRK, Kidney Stone

Rangers,

Quick SITREP: I finally received my letter from my doctor and submitted everything to the recruiter. He said it could be a few more weeks until he gets me to MEPS for my medical and private consult. I'll keep you informed as more progress is met. Thanks.

Re: Med Issues - PRK, Kidney Stone

Ranger Jim, You are absolutely correct about the effectiveness of this site. Definitely not Facebook! Hopefully my recruiter gets "it" that I want and only want an OPT40. I'll keep you posted with my progress. I hope to be at MEPS for my first consult the first week of April. Thanks! B

Re: Med Issues - PRK, Kidney Stone

Rangers, Quick SITREP: I should be getting my letter from my Doctor on Monday (possibly Tuesday or Wednesday) and it is the last thing I am waiting on before I can go to MEPS. The recruiter is making it sound like my experience will be slightly different from most applicants. He said I will do all t...

Re: Med Issues - PRK, Kidney Stone

Ranger Grim666, I feel much better knowing there are Rangers out there that also had 2's in the PULHES. The recruiter told me an 11x would be easier to get with an OPT40 but I would prefer a 68W. He said those usually aren't available but I will probably follow your path...call everyday and bother e...

Re: Med Issues - PRK, Kidney Stone

Ranger Grim666, I think the issue they have is just wanting to push me through into the Army. They feel with my medical history (I had some depression as a teenager - 15 years ago)could give me a 3 on my PULHES. However the Recruiter IC thinks a letter from my Doc and a consult with the MEPS Doc and...

Re: Med Issues - PRK, Kidney Stone

Ranger Jim,

Thats definately good news. The recruiter(s) are starting to figure out that I'm not going to give up on the OPT40. At first they said impossible. Now they are saying we will do our best. Hopefully that trend continues upward towards "we got you one."

Re: Med Issues - PRK, Kidney Stone

Rangers, Quick SITREP: Finished all my paperwork today and have everything but a letter from my family Doc to submit. He won't be able to give me anything until the week of the 17th so I have another week or so. According to the recruiter, after I turn in the letter I will be able to proceed forward...

Re: Med Issues - PRK, Kidney Stone

Ranger Jim, It will be an uphill battle to say the least. My recruiter said he is willing to pretty much try anything to get me an OPT40...however, the Enlisted IC of the station keeps telling me I am too old (31) then that it is impossible and to enter as an 11x or 68W in ACASP program. I keep tell...

Re: Med Issues - PRK, Kidney Stone

Rangers, Well I got some good news today... All my medical issues (kidney stones, PRK) shouldn't be an issue as they happened so long ago. Filled out the needed paperwork with a new recruiter that actually seems to know what he is doing. Spoke with the MEPS medical people (not sure if he was a doc o...

Re: Med Issues - PRK, Kidney Stone

PerryB, Thanks for checking into it for me. I spoke with a new recruiter today who seems to really want to work with me and help me out. He said the PRK will require a waiver but as long as my documentation from my doc says I'm good to go it shouldn't be an issue. The only thing I'm worried about is...

Re: Med Issues - PRK, Kidney Stone

PerryB,

Thanks so much for looking into it for me. The work you do is really appreciated. I had the PRK surgery back in September specifically to enlist as a Ranger. I really hope a kidney stone from 15 years ago doesn't stop the process. Thanks!

Med Issues - PRK, Kidney Stone

Rangers, I have 2 quick questions about medical waivers. 1. I read through AR40-501 (http://www.apd.army.mil/pdffiles/r40_501.pdf) and found that kidney stones can be disqualifying is certain circumstances. When I was about 17 I had a kidney stone to which there are no medical records of (Doctor who...

Re: Introduction: Brian

Ranger Jim; Ranger CharlieRanger1FFV; Broncho; Ranger SleepyDoc; Ranger Grim666; Ranger Rangertough: Thank you so much for the warm welcome. Ranger Jim - You are correct. My PST scores do need work and I am currently working to get them higher. I will continue to work on them with a goal of 90+ PU/S...

Introduction: Brian

Hi, my name is Brian, I'm 31 years old, and have been a career firefighter for the last nine years. I have taken the ASVAB and scored well. I will be going to MEPS for my medical clearance in March after my PRK surgery is finished healing. I hope to enlist with as a Medic (as I have much experience ...
