Private Michael J. Sanders & Private Gilbert Alaniz, Jr. Company A, 1st Battalion (Ranger), 75th Infantry Killed in Training, Parachute Accident: January 25, 1980 Whatever improvements they made, two of my RIP classmates still met the same fate. For a while there we were calling Rock DZ, "...

Welcome, Old Scroll. Thank you for this Welcome. Did you make that jump in 1974 with 1st Batt where the SMG and his RTO entangled and died? Best wishes, Karl in Phoenix Are you talking about Caro? I believe that was later than 1974. Oh, how right you are. I found the citation: Spc. 4 James E. Quick...

Ice on the water of the barbed-wire crawl under obstacles (worm pit) and diesel in the water to make it stink Shortly there after you had to negotiate the ladder, about half way up there was a wait because of the crossover at the top, when everyone started to move I couldn't move my left hand, I th...

Re: What was Ranger School like for you?

We had 1.3 meals per day, on average (Summer Meal Schedule) but winter weather the whole time (RS 5-78). Ice on the water of the barbed-wire crawl under obstacles (worm pit) and diesel in the water to make it stink. During Combatives training, I enjoyed using the throws (including the summersault th...

Re: 1942 US Rangers Combat School - 1 of 9 - Just Declassifi

I also wonder, is this the Rangers being trained, or is is the Ranger combat school, and the Rangers are the trainers. The reason I ask is because of the black guy, and because some of the guys being trained are wearing Navy clothing. I'll have to take a look at the footage when I get home (Youtube...

Re: Who here carries a pistol for personal protection?

Like the Army maintenance plan, defense needs a "before, during, and after" approach to be as effective as possible. While most folks focus on the "during" aspect of defense, they fail to train on the "before" and "after" aspects and have a harder time than t...

Re: 1942 US Rangers Combat School - 1 of 9 - Just Declassifi

Back in the days before Political Correctness and complicated/confusing ROE were mandated, Americans were pretty good at this trade. oh, we still are down at the operational level. when allowed. There is no doubt about the fighting spirit of Rangers on the ground; I only question the fighting spiri...

Re: RASP Class 1 graduates 1/3 of those who started.

Great article; thanks for posting it. RIP, what's that? When I got to B 1/75 in July 1977, there was no such thing. Anyone not making 'standards' got a lot of 'extra training' by the fire team leader or squad leader to bring them up to standards. I am very happy that the new program is hard and so s...
