All a matter of training, folks. If you're willing to do range time; safeties, reloads, malfunction drills, etc., then go for the semi-auto that tickles your fancy. If not, stay with DA revolvers, only malfunction drill being "pull trigger again". Concentrate range drills at distances, and...

M1911A1, .45 ACP, National Match, Extended Slide Stop Release, Ambidextrous Thumb Safety, Pachmayr Grips.
Carried same one for 20+ years, had barrel blow out after about 10 years, Armorers re-tuned action with new barrel. Been from Beirut to Baghdad, good back-up.

Make it through your initial gates, rucking will become an issue down the road. You'll only break yourself down at this point if you go Heavy, Early. Key part of the process is just to break in boots, feet, back. Boots you're gonna' wear; Feet to those boots & conditions; Back to a Ruck. DO NOT ...
