Yeah, I was clueless. 4 months out of MI AIT. Didn't know how to put a ruck together (didn't even know they were issued in pieces). A guy from a Ranger bat showed me how to put it together. When I filled it and weighed it to standard I thought it was really, really heavy.

Thanks Ranger Silverback, I was actually considering bringing enough of both and seeing if the Smartwools are let through. You brought up a point I hadn't considered: It appears making it through inspection does not mean it is authorized. It would not be worth the risk to be caught later in the cour...

Question for RS cadre: Smartwool

Rangers, I assumed the socks you brought to RS had to be military issue. However, On the RS packing list it only says the socks must be wool with cushioned sole. This gave me pause. Is RS allowing some of the highspeed wool socks in? I no longer own any army wools socks and was planning on buying th...

The SFAS training booklet does not exceed 45lbs but you will carry ALOT more than that in SFAS. Generally the minimum weight you will carry is 45 not including food and water (usually you add a few buffer lbs in the ruck so probably 48-50 not including food/water), so total is closer to 60+, but the...

I tried many things for weight. MRE bags filled with sand and taped closed works well, you can make different sizes/weights. Sand leaked out in my house so I switched to soft dive weights. These were great except when I went TDY, then I had to carry 50 lbs of weights with my luggage (*snivel*)(I als...

Always MI, couldn't get out of it (language shortage) on active duty. Went through SFAS but MI branch pulled me back. So I got out.

Need help with knots.

First I want to thank all the Rangers on this site for their time and guidance to those of us who are trying to earn a place among your ranks. My question today is about knots: I suck at them. Is there a resource that has a good illustration of all the knots to ranger standard? I know the Ranger Han...
