I promise you Vee, that in the midst of exploding frags and whizzing projectiles, the only thing on the minds of the vast majority of humanity in that situation, is God. "Many of us carried a hand gun" I wonder if Roy Boatman would agree? Show me a picture of any N Company team m...

In the entire time I was with L Company, there were two items I almost never saw a Ranger take to the bush: a knife and a handgun. Why carry that almost worthless dead weight when you can carry some extra water instead? God invented grenades for close combat.

"A lot of modification to the weapons was frowned on." Yea, right.  There were a few radical exceptions to the rule however: Top right: Carl Ostrom's 17" thumper. Bottom right: Adam Macias and his 14" thumper. Left: Lt. Bob Suchke displays a pride and joy of L Compan...

"I would have to imagine the tape on the suppressor would increase the flash...which was alwasy a problem for short AR's anyway." Who cares!? If you had to blow that tape away, your last worry in the world at that point was trying to hide your presence. Usually there were 30 frags arcing t...

"The buffer comment was ment for BM....I case his forehead was getting dull"

That's funny. The buffer spring in the Car-15 was the single part that always gave us nightmares. I thought that's what you were referring to. Did you read my Car-15 story?

Everyone who answered flash suppressor with electrical tape is absolutely right. Water was the most precious commodity (except during the monsoon....when any recon zone in I Corps was like the Titanic ballroom -about 2000 ft down ; - ) Most of the time, no matter how much water a LRRP/Ranger took ou...

"Can anyone tell me how much a water full 1 qt canteen weighs?" A gallon of water weighs 8 lbs 3 oz. Take it from there. I only carried 1 canteen. I preferred bladder bags. I carried two 4-quart bladder bags and one canteen, or about 18 lbs. of water (including container weight). Ad that t...

The "red dot" scope was invented by astronomers for sighting in celestial bodies for larger more powerful telescopes. I've been using one on my 5" refractor for years. Once it's zeroed in, you're set. Somebody asked what the range was. I'd say at least out to Neptune on a good night. ...

Alright you young whippersnappers, tell me, what application would this thing have? Assassination, right? I can't think of any practical tactical application. It's too damn heavy to be humped very far, and if you carried 20 rounds, somebody else would have to hump half your normal ruck for you. Does...

They have a hotel in the A Shau Valley now. About 10,000 people a year from all over the world travel to Vietnam just to see the infamous A Shau. A lot of American family of men killed in the A Shau go there. Seems a little ironic when you consider that North Vietnamese family survivors will probabl...
