Justified Accord: Celebrating African Partnerships

Exercise Justified Accord — the largest U.S. Africa Command exercise in east Africa — brings together participants from the U.S. and more than 20 other countries to train side by side for peacekeeping missions, crisis response and humanitarian assistance.

Justified Accord included a multinational command post exercise, field training, live-fire and maritime exercises, and special operations and cyber courses. Medical clinics provided free health care for residents in the area.

Kenya hosted most of the activities, like this 5-mile partnership run, with additional events in Uganda, Rwanda, Botswana and Djibouti.

Chaplain services were also provided during Justified Accord. Army Maj. Scott McGowan, assigned to the 79th Troop Command, Massachusetts National Guard, says he “has a heart for soldiers,” and sees his role as providing encouragement and strength as participants face challenges.
