Here's a pretty good article on Airborne School for you young guys headed that way:

At Jump School, they became intimately familiar with the military parachute...How to wear it, adjust it, use it, the works. They also learned techniques needed to accomplish any mission or meet any challenge with absolute confidence. Airborne officers are considered to be among the Army's most valuable combat officers.

Airborne Training is a three-week course of instruction conducted at Fort Benning, Georgia. At Airborne school, Ferguson and Vandergriff trained alongside Regular Army officers and enlisted men and women, as well as members of the other armed services, to jump from Air Force aircraft (C130 and C141).
