IF a veterans service organization offers a "Service Dog" to a wounded or disabled veteran there is some due diligence to be done. There are standards for Service Dogs in regard to training, temperament, grooming, and equipment.

Assistance Dogs of America Inc is the national accrediting organization that sets standards the dogs. If an organization is attempting to give a veteran a dog that is not accredited with the ADAI, it is not really a service dog.
Another key point that is a dog that has passed the ADAI program with an accredited organization will wear a some kind of badge or 'jacket'. (I.E. PAWS for a Cause)....
If someone offers a veteran a service dog from an organization that is NOT; ADAI accredited; the pup may be Rin Tin Tin's smarter brother, but won't pass the sniff or legal test for a Service Dog.
