Introduction-Matthew (Blue to Green Recruit)

Post by mattitude1989 »

Hello, my name is Matthew I am 20 years old and I am prior service Air Force. I joined the US Army in order to pursue something with more of a challenge and with more adventure then my current situation in the AF. I signed up as an 11X and ship to WTC in November and Infantry OSUT in January. I am interested in becoming an Army Ranger, and joined this site in search of useful information and insight of what it is like to be a Ranger. The Army recruiter says he'll send send my info up to the Ranger recruiters and they will cut my orders for airborne/RASP. Does this sound right? Because (nothing personal) he is a recruiter and we all know recruiters will say just about anything to sign a recruit.

thank you

Welcome, thank you for your past and future service.

We have sections on this Forum that will answer most of you questions.

As to your recruiter...ah... you are most likely on your own. A contract for 11x40 is needed from the start before you sign. Otherwise your only chance is to out perform everyone else and try to get Airborne and then while in Airborne do the same again. The Ranger Regiment has a Liaison at the Airborne Center.

Hey....I was a recruiter....couldn't lie to potential soldiers. Told them the truth, which undoubtedly is a huge no-no.

Come to think of it, I sucked so bad as a recruiter that they gave me an ultimatum. Fix your shit or go to war...I volunteered for Iraq the next day. It was easier in the Sunni Triangle than it was in most high schools.

Anyway...welcome to the site. Good luck and pray you land a 11C slot.

Army Vet IEDmagnet, didn't mean to offend just have had bad experiences with my AF recruiter, she lied to me and said all I had to do was vounteer for Special Forces at basic and my MOS would switch (which never happened). When I came home after basic, I mentioned joining the Army and got kicked out of the office and was told never to come back.

Ranger al_2ndWolfhounds, plan on out-performing and doing my best, I have wanted this for a long time and that is why I will NEVER quit. I will email the 75th Regiment with my info just to make sure that they have it.

Ranger Mortar_guy78, is 11C better than 11B?

thanks for the info

 Is Glenfiddich better than McCormick's? Of course it's better.

Joking aside, I was disappointed in basic when they told me I was going to be an 11C, but after 13 years I can honestly say that I love my job and wouldn't want to do anything else. Don't get me wrong, I've done my share of 11B stuff in both training and combat (I spent 16 months in Mosul and Baghdad with my mortars in mothballs doing scout missions), but being a mortar maggot is great. I love it. :D

Young trooper... you didn't offend me... no problem. If I had feelings they would have been hurt long long ago.

As for the 11C v. 11B question. I have both MOS's and I enjoyed the Infantry period. BUT.... when I reclassed to 11C I found my true LOVE and wish I'd have been a mortar man my whole career. Went to Afghanistan as 11C, and the weight sucked, but direct laying that 60mm on target was fucking awesome!!!!!

Ranger Pathersix, the AF is doing force shaping (letting people go/kicking them out) and I volunteered to join the Army. Doing a 2 year tour in Germany, when I'm done I can ship out to Army training. The Army seems more of what I expected when I joined the military. The AF is too relaxed, not enough discipline or respect.
