what schools/courses are most respected?
Rangers,
I know its the man that makes the badge, and not the other way around. I know this isn’t the boy scouts, and a chest full of shiny looking pin-ons isn’t going to Impress anyone. However given the opportunity, I would like to know what schools/courses to volunteer for. I want to be the best at my chosen profession, so what are the best places to go to gain extra skills that are useful, and might possess that little tid-bit of knowledge that could save my ass in a tight spot?

Any school your chain of command is willing to send you to is the best school you can go to at that time. They all will help you be a better, more rounded soldier.

My Pathfinding brothers are correct. I would only add that you need to determine what basic schools you need to complete and go from there. Army has thousands of courses taught each year, so there are lots of opportunities for training and education. Don't let any go to waste.

You're putting the cart before the horse. As I recall, you have a GED and are in the process of getting the college credit hours you need to qualify for a Ranger enlistment contract. So get that done, then enlist. The schools you will need are OSUT, BAC and RASP. Get those done, serve in the Regiment, get to Ranger School and you will have earned the right for some respect.
WE NEED MORE RANGERS!

Sapper...All The Way!!! I haven't attended the course, some here have, but from what I found on the Interweb, It's exactly the same as Ranger School, but shorter, you get to sleep and eat, you don't actually get GO/NOGO scores on leading your men on patrols, you get to sleep and eat, and the tab is RED...how cool is that...LOLNeverSayDie wrote:Rangers,

All seriousness aside,
If you made it to Batt back in the day, you didn't really get to volunteer for a lot...you got Selected to go...the more HOOAH you were, the more 'cool guy' schools you got...I am sure it is pretty much the same...get there first...work the rest out later....

You are correct, Ranger Oto-man, and if your not tabbed, your probably not getting shit for schools, because 'School' should be your one and only goal.Oto-Man wrote:

Ya can go to ALL the school's the military has to offer......
Ranger, S.F., HALO, S.E.R.E., JumpMaster, Sniper, Scuba, Pathfinder, etc.....
The " respect " comes from the way you act, work, and perform under stress in adverse, hostile situations, and the way you treat your fellow Rangers.
I knew guys with a shit-load of school badges on thier uniform.....but I wouldn't want them around in a firefight.
Badges do not earn respect. YOU earn your own respect.

I heard that SAPPER SCHOOL was much, much harder than AIR ASSUALT SCHOOL !!!!!
I wouldn't know though, I was never tough enough to go to those two very hard schools.

I'm still waiting for my Jungle Expert badge, from JWTC, when I was in Panama. Now that school was hard. The scuba and snorkeling was incredible.
