Heading to Southern Pines...

Post by nadnklipsch »

Hey everyone, I'm going to be in Southern Pines, NC (just outside of Ft Bragg) for an IED Dog Handler course. I've never been to Ft Bragg before, so I'm just looking for some ideas on what a group of Infantry Marines can do in the area for a good time. Thanks in advance.

Southern Pines has more SF and USASOC guys then you can shake a stick at. And a good chunk of them are very senior NCO's and Officers. Have fun, there's a few bars but if I were you, I would mind my P's and Q's. Go there, get some good training, have a few to blow off steam and enjoy the crappy weather.

Great assessment. Most of the LE types around there are retired military, and do not have a sense of humor. Southern Pines is a very quiet, peaceful place -- and they intend to keep it that way.

Lots of retired generals & colonels in the AO. Select a designated driver, head to Fayetteville and watch the speed limit signs closely on the way back to quarters.

Just keep your guys in check. It is a place that is nice and quiet. You can get hemmed up quicker than shit there. Get the training you need and if you want to blow off some steam, Fayetteville is your joint.

As long as you're polite and respectful of the mantra that you're in someone else's house, you should be fine.

But if you decide to show your ass out there or god forbid start a fight you're going to feel the repercussions for many years to come.

Its a really nice place in retrospect to the shit hole of fayetteville next to it. There is a irish pub the boys and I used to go to when I was in that area thats really nice. But everything these guys have said about not showing your ass is 100% true.

Thanks for the advice Rangers and everyone else. I'll try to keep my guys in check, but I take no blame for whatever occurs on my birthday

There are a couple of cool pubs in Aberdeen (S. Pines). Right there on US 1.
