Chinese Bandits?

Post by Lost_Jock »

I've just been reading this thread on ARRSE: http://www.arrse.co.uk/cpgn2/index.php? ... 29#1316250

It all sounds very interesting, but when I did a Yahoo search for more info, all I turned up was the same text posted in numerous fora (forums?) and guestbooks throughout the net. As far as I saw everything was posted this year.

Do any of you guys know of this unit?

Regards

I'm sure one of the more versed Rangers from that time will be along soon. There is a time difference so you’ll have to wait a bit.

That particular unit was a battalion scout platoon in the First Cavalry Division. Not a Ranger unit. The patch is post-Viet-Nam.

He seems to have been very busy on various forums and guestbooks.
Strange he hasn't posted here yet.

And much of what he has to say is absolute BULLSHIT!
Some examples:
1) He says that they were eating LRP Rations in Spring of '66.
LRP Rations weren't issued until Fall of '66

2) He talks of not using camo sticks, and not using insect repellant, and wearing issue jungle fatigues on patrol.
Never happened on ANY LRRP Mission, however some LRRPs did wear indiginous clothing.

And I agree.....a lot of his writing sounds like fairy tales..uh...war stories.
I never wore a cape, but I still have my dog tags.

Almost like he's spamming, with his stories!
That's the way I see it.

Guys would ask him questions about a story and he would refuse to answer about anything, and then would post another.

I firmly believe that he doesn't do it to incite conversation, but to only post the story and leave it at that. To me that equals spamming.

This was an interesting thread. It's good to see the response was adequate in that the consensus tells of a poser at large.
