Cold shoulder from MEPS

Post by screescrambler »

Howdy, my name's Jack. I'm a physician assistant, 47 years old; I work in a small town way up in the Rockies. It's an honor and a privilege to post on this forum. I would like to thank all you veterans and active Rangers (and your families) for your service ... especially now that defeatism has become so fashionable.
I served in the Marines back in the '80s. I've been in contact with an Army medical recruiter the past few weeks; I want to go to Iraq or Afghanistan, as far downrange as they're willing to send me, and look after our wounded.
Despite my advanced years I'm in good physical shape. Bizarre as it may sound, I still daydream I might wind up as medical officer in a unit whose CO I could convince to send me to Ranger training. (Be careful what you wish for, right?)
But right now, I'm not sure I'm even going to get past MEPS. The doctors are flapping and squawking about a shoulder injury that left me with some torn cartilage. I have no symptoms (in fact I can pop out about 15-16 pull-ups and 60 pushups), and have a letter from my own doc to that effect. But all the MEPS types seem to care about are the films.
I've been lurking on this site for a few months now. I stumbled onto it while researching possible Army careers. But I confess I spend more time in the 'Good Humor Popsicle Zone' than just about anywhere else. Semper Fi and Hooaah! Keep up the good work.

Well, Howdy right back at cha' there Jack  . Pull up a gurney and stay a spell. Thank you for your service. As far as the MEPS docs are concerned...screw 'em...You can waive almost anything...if you want it bad enough.....

Good luck.

Welcome ! Pretty damn good for a 47 year old. Since you are a former Marine this introduction should probably be in the section for veterans.
