Was there not a nephew of Purdy at RHQ in the early 90s, I also thought there was a nephew of RSGM LG there about that time also, hard enough to live up to Ranger standards, but then to have a father like that, cant say you didn’t have any good role models though

He wasnt a nephew ....he was his son ....was a Pac clerk. I remember when we were inprocessing his RIP class ....we had them drawing equipment I saw the name tape "Purdy". All I did was walk up and ask if he was any relation. He told me he was his father.

After I told the rest of the cadre it was on.

The Purd spoke at the graduation that class.

He also bolo'ed School in '93 or '94. I know it broke the Purd's heart but he didn't say a word about it, unlike that idiot Eaton!

I was around him a little bit but not much, he seemed like a good kid. He just didn't have it.

No fucking shit, with a Dad that is a walking talking living legend, it would be rather hard to try and keep up with that.

Just like PVT Howard, Daddy wore some big shoes.

The article said that he is going to Jump school and RIP after basic. If he doesn't try and down play who he is now, it will follow him his whole career.

I am pulling from memory here... being that I was originally slated for class 07-91 and never being in Regiment... I still had the honor of knowing SGM Purdy. He was (I believe) the SGM at 4th RTB while I was there.

Being sent to Ranger School from Group... I showed up late for the APFT and was not able to get a seat. So... I trotted over to Admin, after I was told to go back to Bragg... and they contacted my unit, who then told me to hold in place.

So, Benning Gulag bound I went. The bad part was, that between 07-91 and 08-91 was a Cycle Break. So... I moved rocks from one pile to another for six damn weeks.

During this time... (CSM?) SGM Purdy came and harrassed us constantly. He would never tire of telling us that we should be "shot with a .22 in our leg" and then made to complete the 12 miler.

Again, never serving in Bn. I did not know the significance of this man, until I was squared away by some of my class mates.

So... as I said... I got to meet the ledgend himself.

As for this kid... I think he will do fine. I respect the fact that he kept his holster shut for as long as he did. Seems to have a good head on his shoulders... then again, it's a press clip. Who really knows what mettle he is made of.

Big shoes... that's for sure!

I think Pvt Howard is displaying some maturity already and will surely do fine in his career.
