I have yet to meet a single person on this planet, who knew just what they were going to face in a training pipeline or combat, because they read a highspeed book.

Here's a hint:

Most SF'ers hate being called "Green Beret's". Bet your book didn't tell you that!

In the book that i read that was written by a Special Forces Solider, that was only one man's point of veiw. He called himself and his buddies Green Berets throughout the whole book and i dont recall him saying anything about people getting offened about it but im going to take your advice and not refer to Special Forces Soliders to Green Berets anymore. I never said I or anyone else will know what it is like to go through training or combat by reading a book, I simply stated get a better idea. Much like people would get a better idea of what they are getting into with all of the Ranger's story's and tips they post on this site.
Times change, frecklenuts.

Rambo killed the whole Green Beret mantra.

SF Soldiers don't want to be linked in with him or any other Super Hero Soldier type of bullshit.

Secret Commandos: Behind Enemy Lines With The Elite Warriors of SOG
That book is a SOG soliders first hand experience in Vietnam. Great Book. SOG was a unit in Vietnam that did missions around the Ho Chi Minh Trial that ran through Laos and Cambodia. In this book are some first hand experiences of some amazing people.

Element of Surprise: Navy Seals in Vietnam
A first hand experience of a Navy Seals in Vietnam. This book has a lot of great stories in it also.

The Commandos: The Inside Story of America's Secret Soldiers
This is another good book but this one is not from a first hand perspective, instead it was written by a journalist that had interviewed all kinds of speical operations soliders and wrote a story about what they had told him. Inside it has stories of reconnaissance in desert strom done by Green Berets, A good amount of information on Delta Force, and an EXCELLENT section on Navy Seals "Hellweek", the only way for you to get a better idea of how fucking crazy hellweek is is to actually experience it.

These are some great books and i hope some of you will check them out, if not i wasnt 10 minutes of my time. These books arent that expensive so you shouldn't have to much of a problem buying one. Also anyone who is looking into going into the military and wanting to become a Ranger, Green Beret, Seal, or whatever, you should read some kind of book about it before hand so you have a better idea of what kind of shit your getting yourself into.
Also Newbie, a great book if you can find it....."Mall Ninja's". Seriously, it's fucking great. If you can't find it on the web, come back here, I'm sure somebody has a copy floating around. Thanks again Bud! :P

The books on the very bottom of the site are very good as well. A must read is "No Excuse Leadership", as well as "The Coveted Black and Gold."

I'm a personal fan of Jenna Jameson's How to Make Love Like a Porn Star: A Cautionary Tale. I read...ok well looked at the pictures while on TDY a couple weeks ago.

"Indestructible" is an autobiographical account of the life of Jack H. Lucas. I'm about halfway through it and it's pretty good reading. It goes from his childhood to his late adult life including service in the Marine Corps, Army, and experiences in WWII where he received the Medal of Honor. Personally I recommend it. :)

Although it provided an excellent read, I have heard that his "memories" were being challenged by more than one person, due to the amount of detail he includes. Apparently, according to quite a few who rejected most of his accounts as fictional at best, there is no way any man in the situations he was in, could remember as much as he later on wrote down.
