Fixed it for you. 25 elevated diamonds. Now.ricanman wrote:Rangers, I was just about to ask about this seems like a new approach to deciding an enlistees physical qualifications for his/her MOS. I guess I should start incorporating long jumps and ball tosses in my routine.

I wonder how they will do the deadlift portion - if they will allow for a decent warm up prior to scoring. A person's max dl who has been allowed protocol time, vs not will be significantly different. Sure hope they aren't stupid about executing this.

Sign of the times my friend. Out of curiosity does anyone know when the last time the PT Test was completely remodeled into the one that we all know and have seen for decades now? And what did the APFT consist of before then?centermass wrote:Nothing but net to max the "Basket Ball" throw????
I'm not a fitness guru by any means but I'm wondering if this will help with the level of standards being judged by the graders. For example we all know what our push up standards are, but then we've seen other graders from big army allowing and counting PU's where the testee is simply moving their head up and down in a pornstar like fashion and thinking it's an actual PU.
Im trying to maintain some faith that they're doing the right thing by the troops but up front it sounds like another aspect of their social experiment and allowing weakness instead of simply demanding high standards across the board.

Re: New Army PT Tests
It changed in the 80's to what it is now (S/U, P/U, 2 Mile Run)cams wrote:Sign of the times my friend. What was it before? I hated the damn thing. It was a 5 event APFT, carried over from the Post VN era.
Horizontal Ladder - 1 minute timed event. 84 continuous rungs maxed it. Drop from it, or 1 minute passes, that's your score.
Run, Dodge and Jump - Timed event. You essentially had a course of what looked like 4 olympic style hurdles in your lane, with a trench in the middle. You had to figure 8 around each hurdle, after the first 2, jump the trench and circle around the next 2, circle back, jump and circle the last 2 and sprint. 20 seconds or less maxed it. Everyone looked like a disoriented private negotiating this one...
Inverted Crawl - aka Crab Walk. Walk forward, 20 yards, clearing the ground using only your hands and feet to support your body, cross the far line, and then, backwards 20 yards crossing the finish line. 29 seconds or better maxed it. This event is the reason I hated the damn thing. Sure, I could max it, but man, did it take its toll on your wrists, not to mention, one of the most awkward events ever. Funny watching others that lacked coordination to make it work.
Bent Leg Sit Ups - Self explanatory. 1 minute timed event. 50 or better maxed it.
2 Mile Run - Self explanatory. 14:41 or better maxed it. (Non combat arms only had to do a 1 mile run....go figure)
Here's the kicker - Get less than a 60 raw score in any 1 event, you failed the whole enchilada, no matter how well you did on the others. 300 points was a Go. 500 points was a max score. Any total score less than 300 was a no go as well.

Re: New Army PT Tests
The PT test I took in Basic, AIT and in RIP was the 5 event test. They informed us in RIP that we were the last RIP class to take that PT Test. After our class they would start administering the new PT Test. That was October, November of 1980. I could max everything but the Inverted Crawl. That thing killed me.

From Taft Yates:
Rangers: I just had a conversation with a senior staff member of the 75th Ranger Regimental Headquarters. There is no change to the PT test standards. An 80% is still required on each event and in your age group. RLTW

Re: New Army PT Tests
What happened to the grenade throw? I remember getting five attempts to throw an iron dummy grenade at a steel pipe in the center of several concentric rings. The closer to the pipe or inside the inner ring gave you the max score. Once, and only once, I managed to do the old Zen thing and was able to hit the pipe five times.
