RPG 7 for US Army ?
U.S. Army infantry platoons may one day be fighting with an Americanized version of the famous, Soviet RPG 7 anti-armor weapon.
Army testers recently evaluated Airtronic USA Inc.'s RPG 7 as part of service's annual Army Expeditionary Warrior Experiment.
"The durability, simplicity, low cost and effectiveness of the RPG 7 has made it the most widely used man-portable anti-armor weapon in the world," according to the AEWE's Systems Book of selected technologies chosen for this year's experiment.

Hope they are planning to somehow make it more accurate. I can count two incident where I should have been owned and the damn rocket missed me, then another that a rocket hit a vehicle in the side and did not detonate. Took off a side mirror though.

You ever see a M72 LAW? Accuracy has never been all that important with weapons that don't make congressional districts a lot of money.IEDmagnet wrote:Hope they are planning to somehow make it more accurate. Touché, and yes to having seen them. Though it was only once in basic because they wouldn't let us all fire live AT4s.

Re: RPG 7 for US Army ?
Used to be a picture floating around of the Technical in Panama that got stopped by a LAW at Rio Hato.
LAWs, AT4s, etc. are as good as you use them. The RPG-7 is so popular because of its simplicity. Look at the majority of the booger eaters who are pictured using them through the past couple decades.
I used to have some serious fun on the demo ranges with LAWs and mechanical ambushes. Never was fond of the AT4 simply because it was so damn cumbersome compared to the LAW, but it sure did have a place in our TOE.

How does the RPG differ from the Carl G? Does the army still have the Carl G?

The "goose" was still in testing when I left so never got to play, we still had 90s. An RPG has a range of about 900m, while the Gustav has a range of about 1250-1300m depending on target and payload. Also a broader range of available packages.

I still have a bore brush for a 90 if anyone wants to buy it.
Ranger X if I remember correctly it was two LAWS fired side by each as the tech was speeding across the DZ. Wasn't much left of it after that.

The RPG is used a lot because it cheap and it's not 100% accurate me i see videos of it and what i hope is they keep the Javelin AT it's a 100% accurate and effective
this is Javelin vs T-72 Test

and here T-72 hit by RPG

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fUpkP6B8XO0
you can see that the tank just get damaged not destroyed

I still am a fan of the 90mm recoilless rifle. I still have a flechette arrow stuck behind my Ranger Tab on my patrol cap. Best 90 gunner I ever saw was Deke (CSM Carl Dietrich). In Puerto Rico around 81 or 82 he made a shot of around 12 to 1500 meters, if my old mind serves me right, and hit a sign about 9 foot square. She was cumbersome, but man she could do some damage.

I have a couple flechettes in a memento box I se as I type this. A mentor of mine told me stories of their use in Vietnam and that the resulting wounds were rather "cross".rangerjd wrote:I still am a fan of the 90mm recoilless rifle. Cumbersome but with Damage potential. Kind of describes Deke...rangerjd wrote:I still am a fan of the 90mm recoilless rifle. Now ain't that the truth. I tried to convince him back in October at the reunion to join this site, however he doesn't seem to be a fan of computers. When I asked him for his email address he had to ask his HH6. Of course he had already had a few beers by then.rangertough wrote:Cumbersome but with Damage potential.
