SITREP Doc_Dino
Well its that time, I leave for Airborne tomorrow afternoon then off to RASP in November, so its my turn to Start one of these threads. Thanks for the help up to this point I am defiantly much better off having come to this site. I also want to offer my help to any other Soldiers applying to RASP from Active duty.I had a lot of questions and was pretty confused at times during the whole process, I didn't want to be nagging the recruiter a whole lot and the majority of the information I found here applies mostly to future soldiers. So If your applying from Active Duty like I did and have questions on what to expect feel free to send me a PM and I will help out as best I can.

Re: SITREP Doc_Dino
Well I have in processed Airborne scool and started to identify the other guys that will be going RASP with me. I also identified a potential problem. Unknown to me and all but one of the other guys going to rasp, a new and much more extensive packing list got put out last month and we were not aware. Now we have to scramble to get the complete packing list. Most of it is small stuff that can be easily bought at the px but there are things like the gortex field jacket and cold weather boots that I will probably have to have mailed from home.

Re: SITREP Doc_Dino
Congrats dude. Don't lose sight of your end goal. RASP will be challenging but SOCM is a whole other animal. Continue to put 100 percent and then some into everything you do.

Re: SITREP Doc_Dino
Im Back!! Sorry for the delay on this sitrep things were insane for a while. I had to get my orders, set up my move, clear housing and Ft Carson, move all my crap almost 1700 miles across the country, and find a new house in less than a month, but im here getting settled into Ft bragg now and SOCM Starts on the 23rd for me. As far as RASP Goes my Experience was much different that most others not only being prior service but an NCO as well so I think Most of the advice I have to give will apply more to people in similar situations. First off I will say anyone who was any kind of a decent solider in the regular Army will do just fine in RASP as long as your not a shithead. Everyone of our prior service guys did verry well. For NCO's the cadre expect different things from you and even though you are in the same course as everyone else they will end up assessing you and treating you diffently. You will not only have to do all the same things the rest of the guys are doing but you will have to plan and facilitate movement and keep the guys in line at the same time witch is a pain in the ass all by its self. Since I have been back I get asked pretty frequently what the hadest part of RASP was and I always tell everyone it was dealing with the privates, At times it felt a little like babysitting or herding cats. Even though your an NCO and your supposed to be in charge you have no real authority there and the privates know it, most of them dont even know how to be adults let a lone men or soldiers. That being said find some guys that are a little older and mature that you can trust and utilize them as squad leaders and team leaders, that helped us out quite a bit. The best advice I have for any privates reading this is just to remember your not at mommy and daddys house any more that means you have to act like a man, clean up after yourself, and don't forget where your at while your there. Here is good example, some dudes were acting like idiots the night before graduation and one of our mentes here got pushed over and hit his head and had us worried that me might not graduate with us. I could go on and on about stupid shit the privates did but I will spare you. Thats all the advice ive got for nowalso , but If your an NCO or a prior serivice service guy feel free to PM me with any questions I know I had trouble finding information that applied to me when I first discoverd this site.
