Introduction *reclass questions*

Post by Assassin554 »

Rangers, To Whom It May Concern,

*I mean no disrespect if this is the wrong forum. I have done my research and this looks like the best place for active duty questions and introductions*

I am 22 year old Specialist in the Active Army. MOS: 21W. I am currently deployed. I came in the Army in 2007. I don’t know what I can and can’t talk about without violating OPSEC, but I have been at Ft. Stewart for the past 3 years. I have been emailing back and forth with a Ranger Recruiter from the 75th website. And he has told me that I could have a good chance to come into the regiment if I re-classed into a low density MOS. So the MOS I’m going to choose is 25C (RADIO OPERATOR – MAINTAINER.) The only problem I foresee is that I am on a deployment and there is no way I’m going to be sent back home for school. So what the Regiment needs now, may not be what the regiment needs in a year. I re-deploy back in May and the MILPER messages say that I have to have 90days stabilization even if I don’t want it, so in about a year.

All this kind of boils down to this: I will re-class for whatever the regiment needs. I want to be in the Regiment. I just don’t want to reclass for something that maybe the regiment may or may not need in a year and then I stay in the conventional Army. What the 75th Recruiter told me was that if I get re-classed he could change all that stuff in my ATTRS but I haven’t been able to get a hold of him and our internet here is real shotty and there are no morale phones to call back to the regiment. The DSN calls but it doesn’t work with the number he gave me.

..Anyways I just thought I should introduce myself before I snoop all over these forums for information on what I’m looking into. I have been training for RASP and the 75th by doing Crossfit, and on my 4th day of exercise I do a ruckmarch for about an hour and a half. I’m not trying to kill my body before I really condition myself for RASP; I’m just getting my body used to the weight. I have a year and some change to train. Also if anyone knows what a 25C’s MOS duties are at the regiment that would be great. From what I’ve read and gathered. It’s pretty much a platoon RTO.

Thanks Rangers for this volatile information database for the trained killer.

(Sorry if this is a lot, and unorganized. The MWR I’m at has computer Nazis and I had to type this all pretty quick)

...the one that says "Questions/answers about the best route to serving as an Army Ranger" is probably where you'll find your answers.

This is the Introduction forum bud. Please tell a little more about you and why you want to serve in the Regiment, minding PERSEC of course.
I don’t know what I can and can’t talk about without violating OPSEC
If ever you're unsure, then say nothing, remember that lives depend upon it.

But you should be aware by now as a SPC4 what is and isn't an OPSEC violation. You need to think about it.

He is correct, I was told as a young man this same thing and I followed that route and ended up as an RTO in 2nd Batt. Regiment always needs good commo guys to jump 115lb rucks, you'll lose about an inch or two in height when you're done, but your balls will be huge.

All this kind of boils down to this: I will re-class for whatever the regiment needs. I want to be in the Regiment. I just don’t want to reclass for something that maybe the regiment may or may not need in a year and then I stay in the conventional Army. Actually what it boils down to is this, if you really want it, you'll do whatever it takes to get there. Plain and simple. A lot of men want to get there, but very few make it in the long run.

Roger that. I am out of Ft.Stewart, GA. Since 2007. I have beructioen part of the 92nd Engineers since. I am attached to a vertical construction company, 554th EN CO. I didn't know what I could and couldn't say as far as OPSEC of personnel being downrange. But I see guys posting thier APO adresses all over facebook. I was just being weary.

As far as joining the Regiment, I have always been interested. One day I was talking with a Chief in my company about it and he was pretty encouraging. I wasn't aware that it was something anyone besides 11B's could do. Our Batallion keeps our soldiers around for a long time, so any type of recruiting to other places (IE: 75th, SF, PSYOPS, etc) usually doesn't make it past the Commander or 1SG. The Chief informed me to go on the website and check out what their looking for. Thus, me getting in contact with a recruiter. Why I want to be in the regt? I want to serve with the best, I don't want to live with regret. I could say a lot more but I don't want to be to cliche. I am thirsty for it.

Well, A-man, if you truly want to earn a place in the 75th Ranger Regiment, you came to the right site. Read and follow the guidance you were given by Ranger Cams. He knows of what he speaks. Continue to discuss this issue with the Regimental Recruiting folks. Never, never quit!

Welcome.
Whatever your MOS is, be the best possible soldier that you can be. You never know when or where your former skill set might be useful on a mission down the road somewhere.
Commo is important, we can't succeed without skilled operators. The wider your technical background, the better.

As for the risk of picking the wrong MOS, you have to assess that risk & decide if you want to run it. Assuming risk and assessing same is part of ranger lifestyle, this decision is where the road begins for you. No matter what, the odds of you making it all the way into our regiment are against you, "many are called, few are chosen". We believe that risk was worth it or we wouldn't be here. You decide - 3-4 more years in Big Army in a different MOS, or the best/hardest time of your life?
