You need to lose your frivolous attitude. A Drill Sergeant is the least of your worries. Check yourself.

If you want to be a 13F - then attention to detail should be your hallmark. Otherwise - men die.

Sign only what you want. I believe that has been repeated on this board about a 1000 times. Are you looking for a personal stroke or what?

My recruiter is a pretty straightforward guy, and a Major in the Army
Now I know where I got my post in the other thread from. I must have seriously been out of it.

SFC Hit_It,

My particular recruiter is not a Major. He is a Sergeant First Class. However, a family friend is in fact a Major, and his card said Health Care Recruiter, so you are probably correct, in that he recruits medics, doctors, etc. as opposed to grunts or other MOSes. This family friend has known and worked with my actual recruiter for 13 years and said that he has no concern when it comes to my recruiter's integrity and honesty.

On topic, I signed today. I ship out June 17 to Ft. Knox. I did not get ranger on my contract. There were absolutely no ranger slots availible for any MOS other than truckdriver, and that was with no airborne. Instead, I took the MOS I wanted, which was 13F. I got that job with Airborne. I plan on seeking out ranger training once I get in my army career.

Yeah. I looked on the computer myself, and they had the ROC(Recruiter Operations Command maybe?) on speaker phone requesting for slots. Only spots they had with ranger option on the contract was for a truckdriver MOS, and that had no airborne on the contract. The system is live so I mean, there could be a slot one day, and none the next. I'm happy with my contract, even though I did not get Ranger. There will always be oppurtunities down the road. I got a hell of a signing bonus, too.

Hmm, suppose you may be right, I'm dead set on option 40 however, I guess I might not be shipping for a while then. Damn, more time to Pt however if you are correct.

If an MOS had Option 40 attached to it, choosing that MOS would mean you have to attend Airborne school. Option 40 is the only Option that needed t be on the screen, not Option 4 (Airborne training) or any weird combination.

Just because it was a Truck Driver does not mean the guy would not need to jump to be in the Ranger Regiment.

As long as you are happy with the MOS you chose then it is all good.

If you don't mind explain something to me, if you aren't shipping until the end of July why not wait and see if an opt 40 would come up? By no means am I making an accusation and I think it is great that you got the job you wanted but if you want to be a Ranger why not get everything garenteed in your contract as opposed to hoping there will be opportunities in the future.

SFC Hit_It, the truckdriver option was not an option 40 contract. It had no airborne attached to it, just ranger school. My fault for the confusion.

Ranger Baseplate, I could have waited, however, I wanted to make a commitment now, and jump in the DEP program so I can gain rank before I ship out. Also, signing now would give me a bit more cash. I'm not joining for the money, but I would get an extra 4 grand for signing now, rather than after I graduate High School. So I guess if uncle sam is throwing out money, take it. :P

I have a friend in the 82nd Airborne, and he's told me they come looking for people who want ranger school all the time. I believe I'll have the option to go ranger down the road, and I think it would be better for me if I got some experience in the army before I jump into RIP/Ranger School. Hope that answers your questions.

Well, got back from MEPS today. Seems I have a partial hearing loss in my left ear, and so I scored a Damn 3 in hearing. Waiver is inbound, but I'm not sure if they'll let me get my hearing rating lowered to 1 in order to keep my 13F job. Sucks ass, but I guess I'll just have to go infantry if I end up with a 2. Sucky part is I had no idea, and have had 0 problems with hearing period. Just updating you guys. Hopefully I'll acquire my waiver in the next few days and head up to MEPS again.

So, my phys profile is 1-1-1-3-1-1, recruiter and liaison said the waiver will lower me to at least a 2, and possibly a 1. I'm praying for a 1, because I'm really committed to my MOS, but I guess I'll do whatever it takes to get enlisted.

Rangers,

I have gotten a call from my recruiter, and it appears my waiver was denied. He is shocked(raising all kinds of hell) and I can't believe it. I am going to an ear specialist to get an evaluation and his opinion outside of MEPS. I've also written my congressman to see if anything can be done, as I am completely confident that my slight hearing problem will not hinder me to do my job in any way, shape or form. Any advice on anything else I can do, Rangers? I refuse to give up until I exhaust all the options I currently have left. I am dead-set on serving my country in the United States Armed Forces.

Good news! Decided to see an ear specialist outside the military on my own. Had a big build-up of wax against my eardrum. Removed that, but the wax caused my eardrum to become enflamed, so just need eardrops for 2 weeks and I'll be fine! No nerve damage, so I should have perfect hearing! Going to my recruiter after a follow up with my doc in 2 weeks to get a ride up to MEPS again to take the hearing test.
