I thank all who gave input. You have my respect.

I have heard of old men going through Ranger School but to go through the ropes as an old man.. I'm thinking thank God you said that above.

My 2 mile run when I was 20 was 11:34 with boots but then in RIP with running shoes I was smoked! 17 + minutes will not get your foot in the door...

So your considering joining the army? Thats a great thing to hear these days especially with all the Iraq/Bush bashing thats been going around on the media. Anyway, its never too early to start a solid PT regiment. Increasing your PT score will make TRADOC (Basic, Ait, etc...) that much easier. If you dont already do PT at minimum 5 days a week its never too late to start, even if your just thinking about joining. If you need help conjuring up a solid PT schedule I will be more than happy to help you out. My PT score was absolute garbage when I came in, but a little determination will go a long way. Now im in the 280, 290's which isnt that great still since most of these Rangers are probably 300+ on the extended scale. Anyway if you need help with a PT schedule let me know I'll be more than happy to help! Other then that Good luck Zenken and welcome again!

Ken,
Allow me to get this thread back on track. Occasionally, someone tries to interject themselves into a conversation they should leave alone. Harsher members than I usually point out the error of their ways.

But I digressed.

Ken, a man has only one opportunity to make a favorable initial impression. You have done better than most, perhaps because of your advanced age. Please allow me to point out that Army will allow you to enlist up to age 42. However, I would caution you that initial entry for Ranger is probably unrealistic at your age. While the honor graduate in my class was a 42 year-old Special Forces Captain, at 39 you will find you are out of your league. You mentioned that you have made a career as a photographer; therefore, I recommend you do some research and consider enlisting as a 25V, Combat Documentation and Production Specialist. Ken,

First off I give you credit for trying to be a Ranger. I went from the Navy to the Army after 14 years off & at age 38. I didn't try out for Rangers but I went Airborne Infantry & it was a 21 year blast!

I too did the commercial photography bit for a while between Navy & Army but had more fun as a private Detective & martial arts instructor where I made more money.

I was in great physical condition when I finally went into the Army & I can guarantee you that you'll find all of your training a hell of a lot easier if you get yourself in top shape before trying for that Option 40 contract. Don't let that contract go to waste. If you have any doubts about yourself don't do it. There are plenty jobs in the Army that you'll be capable of. Never quit but don't put yourself in that position where you might not be able to cut it. It doesn't get any easier after RIP.
