It is a little slow in some places but it does tell the storey acurately.
Ranger Ron,

The flashback method of telling a story is hard to do. I agree with SGM Ranger Puck, it was a bit slow in places, especially toward the end when the cuts of the men on tour became longer (or at least seemed to) and the viewer got more of the poorly edited story line of Gagnon and his girlfriend/wife.

That being said, I walked away from the movie satisfied that I got my money's worth for two major reasons: 1. It's rare that a Hollyweird picture motivates me to do anything as this one did. 2. Cinematography: There are some parts of the movie that I think were definitely worth seeing on the big screen vs. my small tv.

Thanks Smiley....Probably better go see it. Thanks.

The Departed:

Good movie, good cast and all, but if you haven't seen the "original", you should see it first.

The movie the Departed is a remake of a Chinese flic called "Infernal Affairs". I honestly thought it was better.

Still, a good movie and Jack Nicholson as well as DiCaprio play their roles very well. Watch out for the end.

Harsh Times...

This movie is a sledgehammer. You will not walk out feeling good.

I am a big Christian Bale fan, and for what this role is he does a good job. He accurately captures elements of the brutal logic and fractured psychology that we as Rangers or soliders have at times experienced. The difference is, he can't turn it off. He is a train wreck, an amoral caricature of a human being who is defined by bad decisions yet who also has enough cunning and intelligence to game the system, right up until the bear trap snaps shut. There is nothing redeeming about him and you know it won't end well, which means this is less about suspense and more about grim anticipation of an unpleasant event.

I can't recommend it because I could easily have done without seeing it. It reminds me of Bad Lieutenant with Harvey Keitel. Tough to watch, desrcibing the worst among us and, and lacking good reason for adding it to your mental stew.

I continued my journey into CGI hell and saw "Flushed Away" with my son. It was actually pretty good and had some funny parts that only the adults probably got- especially the parts that ragged on the French. My son thought it was hilarious, I ate 4 pounds of popcorn and all around it was a good way to spend a rainy afternoon. 8)

And from the vault, I dug out "Lock, Stock and 2 Smoking Barrells" from my DVD collection and watched it again last night.

If you haven't seen it, I highly recommend it.

Is "flushed away" the one with the screaming snails? For some reason that part of the trailer cracked me up. Maybe it was the panicked flight of the snails, trying to get away from the mouse.
Yep. That's the one. I wasn't sure what the hell they were. :D

Just watched "Miami VICE"

I thought it was a good movie, about as good of a cast as you could get together and it was graced with the insanely hot Gong Li.

Watched Casino Royale yesterday. There will never be a better Bond than Connery, but I thought this movie was excellent.

They took all the stupid stuff away like 'invisible cars' and made this guy believable.

Me and my Ranger buddy went to see the movie High Times, it was absolutely fucking awful. It pictured an ex-Ranger drug addict/drunk trying to deal with post traumatic stress disorder and become a police officer at the same time.

The movie made it seem like the Ranger had went over there and butchered people and tortured captured terrorist by cutting them with his knife as well as shooting captured POW's after the fight. Not to mention the scene it shows of the Ranger Bat in combat, they are wearing skeleton gloves and mask.

It was one of the stupidest fucking things and what really pisses me off is that Hollywood makes Marines look like hero's then 2 weeks later makes a movie about a Ranger and makes him look the part of a psycopathic asshole that pulls a gun on his girlfriend, best friend, and shoots up the place at a drug deal he was involved in.
