I was attached to an SF unit for OEF as a reserve CA guy. Our CA unit was (FID/UW) which at the time meant war traced to SF units. I was attached to an ODA for my entire deployment and that is the patch we were assigned to wear. The guys on the ODA's that I served with have never questioned it.

I have pride in the Tiger Bn, and if it's allowed, I'd like to state it.

I think you just did? Just messin'.....of course. Pride in one's Unit is always a Good Thing!

I meant to say, "assigned" unit you sick bastards!

Just a note being a Mass Guard guy. Some of these Mp's get it, and others don't. Because of who they were attached to most have the right to wear three or four "Combat Patches", I do find it amusing that just about everyone wears the SF patch, but only one has actually said to me, "fuck it, they didn't do anything we didn't do...". OK sport, whatever, but they went, and they served while most do not, and that has my respect.
By the way when I went to SOT in APR 84, everybody attached to group wore the beret, cooks, truck drivers(chicks). It was embarrassing, and I felt bad for the boys, they hated it, but sucked it up and drove on.

I appreciate their service don't get me wrong. I also appreciate the support because without it we wouldn't be able to accomplish our mission. I saw the knuckleheads wearing the green beenie, and yeah I sucked it up just like the Rangers did when the black beret was given to everyone in the Army. My point is to let them wear their own shit is all I'm saying.

Absolutely, my point also, most were attached to the 18th ABC from Ma for the majority of the time they were there, plus they have their own patch. But no, they all wear the SF patch because they want people to think that don't know better, that's who they are, and I think it sucks. Don't get me wrong, some of these folks are really good kids, but me in their place, I would never wear that patch, unless I was a member of that unit.
Just as in 84, I was shocked when I saw my first fat female PFC wearing a 5th group beret...the Army was not the same for me after that.

Its a pity that they do have the same pride in their own unit (ie wear that combat patch) as opposed to the unit they were attached to.

We had some NG truck drivers attached to us in Desert Storm. For the most part good troops. They were authorized our divison patch for their combat patch. They actually wore some funky NG state HQ's patch for a unit patch...ugly as hell. Can't say I blame them on that one.

But I have met a few knuckleheads who supported SF or were attached to SF who try to infer they were SF when its pretty obvious that they were not on an ODA.

By the same token I have met a couple at SWC going thru the Q' who were authorized SF combat patches who were not comfortable wearing them. They wore the unit patch they were from.

I have a particular disgust/distaste for soldiers who wear Marine combat patches. Talk about no pride in your unit.. how about no pride in your BRANCH!?

If they wanted to wear a Marine combat patch they should have joined the... err wait we didn't wear patches.

I had a long discussion with a SFC today about that very topic. The guys I have seen wearing it were the troopers from 2ID thsat fought with the Marines in Fallujjah and Ramadi. Those boys fought hard and they respect the hell out of the Marines, so I have decided to leave it alone for now.
