Hello. I'm Evan, a 20 year old HS graduate and sophomore in college. I live on the Gulf Coast of FL and work at various jobs. Most recently, I worked in landscape/irrigation installation for about 9 months. My intended goals now lead me to the Army- though it may seem to be at an odd time (2nd yr in school), it's part of a delicate plan. For what it may be worth to some of you, my father and his father both served in the Army as Colonels...so I assume that maybe 7% of my reasons for volunteering are inherent. I do want to note, however, that the other 93% have nothing to do with the "family tradition" idea that some people carry on. On the other hand, I respect that idea and simply wanted to point out that I am not part of that scenario because I believe both are parts of different characters.
Moving right along to the good stuff... I signed in the first week of selected 11x with option 40 and am currently DEP. My report date is 20060907 (my 21st birthday), but it is planned to renegot my contract for the next available date, which would be the 12th. I've done a good bit of reading here prior to my registering, and by that have already gained a lot. I was pleasantly surprised at the things I learned on this site since I have had read read read and read some more from other sources in the previous months. I wanted to know as much as possible before I even spoke with a recruiter or went to MEPS...and it's nice to know now that I can pick up even more here. So, thanks to all of you who contribute here. Some of what I see here I disagree with (obviously I'm not talking about technical stuff..since I have NO experience in that
![Wink ](./images/smilies/o_icon_e_wink.gif)
) and some of what I see I do agree with. I've noticed, though, that it is possible to learn from both. That's why I say thanks to all who contribute.
