Intro redux
Hi,
I'm 22 and living in Maryland. I want to enlist in the Army and want to know if my current health conditions would prevent me from going overseas, or if there'd be a way around these issues. My buddy has already gone to Iraq and said that my health may prevent me from making the cut. I've got a heart murmur, migraines, heartburn, and have 30% hearing loss from an accident a few years ago. I've got more "ists" than a hospital but I want to make it across the pond or wherever I'm asked to serve.
I figure the heart murmur is my biggest hurdle to making the grade. Any truth to that?
Thanks for a great site. It's a solid resource. I apologize for my previous post in the wrong forum. Thanks for letting me stay.

Thanks for your prompt replies. I haven't ventured on message boards in a few years. What is PM? If it's something being sent to my email, please send it to:

Shitty luck, kid.
Good luck. :?
I think he already established his lack of that.
I would judge your chances as slim to none. Heart murmer can be anything from not an issue to absolutely no way.

I was hoping to get by despite the heart murmur. Do you know what the cutoff line is for something like this? I want to tell myself that it's not a black and white issue that means I can't serve.
Also, do you know where I could find a description of what medical issues conflict with being allowed to serve?
Here's hoping....

Why don't you just do something to seve here?
With all the "ist's" you have, you'll be wasting your local recruiters time, our time, the DoD's time and for fuck's sake your time trying to enlist. You were born fucked up, you accident fucked you up, life fucked you up-whatever. Just move the fuck on, figure out a way that you can contribute from here.
Little Suzy, collects for phone cards. Bobby's building houses for injured soldiers. And now you need to just find your niche... And your life will just be peachy. But to try and put yourself in a uniform will just be a massive mistake and you will just end up torn up and more importantly if your ever made it to battle, I worry that you would get someone else hurt.
