Been lurking for a little while...

Greetings Rangers, veterans, families and others.

I joined the Army back in '91 with a Ranger contract (did they call them option 40 back then?) Unfortunately I joined as a spoon... Anyway, graduated RIP, earned my Black Beret (before they became standard issue in Cracker Jack boxes) and went on to HHC 1/75. I loved every second of being a Ranger, but hated every minute of being a spoon. I ended up leaving Battalion as my quickest way out of my MOS (left on good terms, NOT an LOM). Later reenlisted as a rigger and went to Italy. Stayed there four glorious years then went to Germany for three more. Got out and joined the Guard as a computer geek. In my Clark Kent mode I'm an IT Director.

I was in 1/75 during some interesting times...I was there when LTC Stauss's bird crashed into the Great Salt Lake; Doc Donovan was the Battalion PA and last PA in the Army to be a Warrant Officer; Chap Berry (later the 1st Regimental chaplain) went to Ranger school...

Ranger Everett Ruess, welcome to the site and thank you for your service. Being a spoon is still an honorable position. A soldier is a soldier. You deserve the same respect as anyone else that has served. 8)

Thank you hit_it. Starting my Army life as a Ranger shaped my entire perspective in a very positive way. Of course the lessons weren't always so fun...

I have to say, I appreciated the spoons more than I did anyone else I met. They fed me...everyone else seemed to be on a mission to see that I missed as many meals as possible. Fuckin A spoons!
Rigger? Im alive...thats got to count for something. Thanks dude.
