When I was in there was a certain amount of time a Ranger could be "broke" until he was released from the Regiment. Several Rangers I knew were kept around untill they were healed beyond the standard time limit. This depended on job transfer, tab/no tab, miscelanious jobs available untill healed etc..

The rule of thumb was if you were a shitbag the heads would get rid of you. If you were solid they would keep/hide you until healed. If you were Ranger Qualified, it would increase your odds of staying in Batt. The whole process was very subjective and I am sure it was exclusive to the time frame of my service as a peace time Ranger.
