Today (20161128), I was finally able to return to LA MEPS to do the full physical. The First Sergeant got involved and somehow was able to get me finally scheduled for the physical. The next step from here is to wait to get word back from USAREC in regards to the approval of my medical waiver after they have reviewed my new physical.
Dan, any new developments? Never, never quit!

Ranger Jim,

I followed up with my recruiter last Monday (20161205) and there has not been any word back from USAREC yet in regards to my medical waiver. I will continue to wait and follow up with my recruiter next Monday (20161212) to see if there has been any word yet.

Rangers and all,

I have spoke with my recruiter today in regards to an update on my situation. It seems that the MEPS CMO required that I see an additional eye consultant outside of MEPS. My recruiter was not aware of this until today. The MEPS CMO also said nothing of this when I saw her at the end of last month during the physical. I am now awaiting for MEPS to schedule me to see an outside eye consultant.

According to my recruiter, this should take about a week or two to get scheduled. After I have seen the eye consultant, LA MEPS will then send up my physical and the paperwork from the eye consultant up to USAREC to see if my medical waiver gets approved or not.

This has been a very slow process, Dan. Stay with it, hopefully the new year will bring good news. Never, never quit!

Ranger Jim,

I received a call Friday morning from my recruiter that I was scheduled for an eye consult this morning (20161219). I reported to MEPS this morning and after waiting for 3 hours, I was told that I no longer needed an eye consult.

They told me that even though the CMO scheduled me for an eye consult, the Army only requested a full physical and required no eye consult. I talked to the civilian in charge of the Army office at LA MEPS and he said that my full physical and medical waiver request will now go up the Army chain of command all the way up to USAREC to approve or disapprove my medical waiver.

Ranger Jim,

I had a great Christmas. I hope you had a Merry Christmas too. My recruiter contacted me today to inform me that I need to come in to the recruiting station next week to fill out more paperwork for a RE Code/Admin waiver. This is for the RE Code when I first got discharged. He also informed me that my medical waiver packet is now sitting up at USAREC waiting to get approved. Once it gets approved, the RE Code/Admin waiver packet will go up to get approved.

This has been a very long process indeed, with a lot of hiccups on the way. But there is nothing I want more than this, so I will continue to wait and do what I need to do on my part to make this happen.

Rangers and all,

I have finally gotten work back from my recruiter today. My medical waiver for my congenital nystagmus condition has been approved by USAREC on 20170118. Now, I just need to get my current employer to fill out a reference form for my RE Code waiver. I have been told that if my medical waiver was approved, the RE Code waiver should also be approved.

Ranger Jim,

I am scheduled to return to MEPS this Friday (20170127) to sign my contract and enlist. Hopefully everything goes smooth and I run into no problems.

Rangers and all,

Today is finally the day. After almost 2 years of trying to reenlist, I was able to sign my enlistment papers. I was able to obtain the MOS I wanted, 11X. After going back and forth with my guidance counselor for 2 hours, I was unfortunately not able to get Option 40 because of my medical waiver. I will need to try to obtain it at OSUT. My ship date is 20170221.
