Shipping Out

Rangers, I'm shipping out for OSUT at Ft. Benning Monday. I've decided to post this now since I'm not sure about internet access at the hotel tomorrow. This website has helped me a lot, and I'd like to thank all the Rangers for sharing their experiences. Just reading it has given me great motivation...

Re: Daily workout post

Today, I completed a 12.35 mile road-ruck in 2hr 56min. Ruck weight was 35lb plate, plus the ALICE ruck/frame itself and padding to stabilize the plate inside. Around 40lb, not counting the camelback. It wasn't too bad until I finished. Once the weight is off your shoulders it all hits you. Bl...

Re: Daily workout post

Completed a nice long run along a rolling road today. One intersection to the other and back, 8.13 miles, completed in 1hr 9min. Not a great speed, but I didn't even bother to wear a watch while I ran, instead I just paced by effort. I haven't run more than 7 miles in a while, so this was fun. Lots ...

Re: Daily workout post

Today I ran my 5 miler, with another poor time of 39:41. (Barely under 40--yikes!) Obviously I've lost a bit of my performance since I busted my foot up a month ago, but the squats likely did not help either as I woke up VERY sore today again  I don't have access to the right dumbell weights, g...

Re: Daily workout post

Thick Smoke WO completed. Time- 31:17, including breaks. That was a pain. Especially the squats. My legs were sore enough waking up that I was ready to call it a rest day, but then I remembered this workout and figured I had to suck it up. Glocky45, I'm gonna be cursing your name during my run tommo...

Re: SitRep Apft

Do more of them. It's that simple. Situps are something you can do everyday, so take advantage of that. Do some sets of a few hundred at a time, that'll get you VERY used to them, so that cranking out 80+ becomes more of a race against 2 minutes than a muscle fatigue issue. You can add in other ab e...

Re: Point/ Reflex shooting

twtich, I'm not sure what the practicality of shooting off the hip would be if you can get the distance to present the pistol. Am I correct that this is the "Draw, and shoot right off the holster" technique? At 5 yards, I think you're pushing the range of such a method, which I've only eve...

Re: GREAT NEWS ABOUT RASP EVERYONE!!!

This is simply talking about Pre-RASP? From what I've read, it's just a phase with more/harder PT to help prepare people for RASP. I think it's a good idea, as one of my primary worries has been the fitness dive I'll take going through OSUT. Either way, whatever changes are made are irrelevant to co...

Re: Plate Carriers

Ranger JohnDowland, how heavy of a setup are you looking at? There's plenty of lightweight carriers just now hitting the market, I know Blue Force Gear (love their MOLLE belt) has a lightweight PC, and Crye debuted their Jumpable Plate Carrier at SHOT show. I don't have experience with either, but i...

Re: 5 Mile Run Improvement

Rangers, as promised, here are the results after two more weeks: Week 3: I decided to try more long mileage days this week, starting with a 5 mile run along the hilliest road near my home (I live in Southeast OH, so that'll give you an idea of what passes for "hilly" around here, nothing l...

Ranger KW Driver, I can confirm that is what my current contract (11x opt 40) says. 4 yrs plus entry training period. This is what was at MEPS as of July 18.

Re: Any Utility in DEPers Shooting?

Thank you Rangers for the replies. It's hard not to overthink these things with so much time between now and shipping, but I need to keep from wasting it on questions that won't make a difference if I'm not adequately prepared physically and mentally. I'll keep up on my shooting insofar as I've alwa...

Any Utility in DEPers Shooting?

Rangers, I was wondering if it would be advisable that DEPers pursue any firearms training prior to shipping? I've been an avid shooter since I was 8, with the last 7 years being focused on the AR platform as well as handguns. Shooting has been my biggest hobby in my life, and I'm pretty competitive...

Re: 5 Mile Run Improvement

I'm using 2:00 of rest in between intervals. I got that figure from the RAW (Ranger Athlete Warrior) program posted elsewhere. The program is obviously geared towards Rangers, but there's lots for us DEPers to learn from it. It recommends 1:30-3:00 rest, and I simply settled on an arbitrary 2 minutes.
