Re: Oldest To Go Through Ranger School
Interesting. I'd like to know if there is a list of those who died in RS. There were two in my class, must have been late Aug 68, killed by lighting. One was Bowden, a shake and bake. I posted a story about him and Campbell, a marine who had stored his class A's in Bowden's locker. Another was an ol...

Re: Are all Rangers trained in infantry tactics?
It's not a bad question. Way back when (64 when I went in), there were no organized Ranger units. Army policy at the time was that each combat arms unit at the platoon or company level would have one ranger qualified NCO or officer. I had a 91B (medic) MOS in 68 when I went through Ranger School so ...

Peaches n Pound Cake
It used to be back in Charlie C Rat days that one of the best combinations was a can of peaches from the B3 unit and a pound cake from the B2 unit. Now if you got that combination, you were in pretty good shape to trade for just about anything else. New troopers were fair game to be traded outta the...

Re: Resigning a commission to sever in 75th/SF
Maybe the most famous example of this was in the UK. TE Lawrence (Lawrence of Arabia) resigned his commission in the British Army after WW1 and subsequently enlisted in the RAF in 1923. His cottage during his initial service was near Wool in Dorset (near the Tank Museum (highly recommend a visit if ...

Re: Introduction
Yeah, you're right. The right spelling is "lightning". I was a summer Ranger, went through July and August. Not sure I would have made it in the winter. The joke back then was that winter Rangers got to sew their tab on with white thread. I remember needing "anti-shades" during m...

Introduction
I don't know the class number but I started RS either on the 2nd or 3rd of July 1968. I remember the dates because I recall thinking that we'd get a day off for the 4th of July - boy was I mistaken. I was from the 12th SFGA out on the west coast. My Ranger Buddy was originally a big Russian kid, Ocy...
