Re: Ranger Medic Recruiting & Training
WHAT? No more 91B2V's? That sucks! Or maybe not, we didn't get a whole lot of real training before we got to the Bn. Mostly slings, dressings and splints. We got all the EMT training once we got to bn. MOS 91B became MOS 91W and then became MOS 68W. The AIT went from 10 weeks to 16 weeks to...

Former Ranger wear of the Ranger Crest on Civies?
Greetings all current and former Rangers, Is it OK for an alumni of one of the Bn's to wear the Ranger Crest on the lapel of a sport coat on Veteran's Day? The VA urges Veterans to wear their medals on Veteran's Day: http://www1.va.gov/opa/pressrel/pressrelease.cfm?id=1193 However, I'd rather just w...

Old Scroll Medic Here
When I got to Hardrock Charlie in '79 the company was short of school trained medics so Doc Donovan was Leading the Way by instituting his own brand of Combat Lifesavers. "Doc" Friedman was being trained OJT after doing at least one tour as an 11B. Doc Friedman was a damned good medic and ...

I'm service connected for the back, feet, and other stuff. Running in jungle boots in BN was not fun on Perimeter Road! Right now it just aches and cracks a lot, but it does seem to be getting worse, although I'm getting fatter too. I'm sure that doesn't help. Damn cookies! I wonder if there is any ...

Spine Trashed from Jumping?
Anyone else have a bad T-spine from military parachuting? I only had 65 jumps but some of the 30 or so in BN were a bitch. I had to accidents, a partial and mid-air collision, both with landings I barely remember. Anyway, the VA and a chiro both looked at my x-rays and my discs are now rectangular i...

I left HAAF for two reasons, 1) to be a medic on a medevac bird and hone my skills as a Ranger Medic HOOAH!, and 2) I had gotten drunk and asked a stripper to marry me....not so hooah. After I did a year in the 498th at Wright AAF I got a line number to be the Company Medic for Charlie Company, I st...

Met SSG Purdy in C 1-75 on a Run!
He'd just come back to 1st Bn from Delta and was a bit out of shape. But he was no one to mess with, had no neck and lots of pock marks on his face and was generally a scary dude. But he was always cool with me, even when he jacked me up for not having my Class A blouse buttoned up when I was visiti...

It's good to be back in the perimeter of the patrol base once again! No safer feeling than being surrounded by other Rangers!

Oh yeah Mortuary Affairs did a fine job. But the family just wanted to make sure and they had a bunch of Marines around drunk enough to open the closed casket and check out his tatts.
